Traveling with Pets

Whether dog or cat – at Raci Travel we know that pets are part of the family. We are happy to take your loyal companions with you on our flights. Depending on size and weight, your pet will travel well-protected in the aircraft cabin. To ensure the journey is completely safe and stress-free for both humans and animals, please observe the following guidelines.

General Requirements for Carriage

  • Permitted Species: We exclusively transport dogs and domestic cats.

  • Minimum Age: The animal must be at least 16 weeks old and fully weaned.

  • Health Status: Only healthy and fit animals will be carried. Pregnant animals are excluded from transport.

  • Number per Person: A maximum of two healthy animals may travel in a shared, approved transport container, provided they get along with each other.

  • Registration: Please be sure to specify your request to travel with an animal directly during your booking, as spaces per flight are strictly limited.

Transport Guidelines for the Cabin (PETC)

  • Weight Limit: The maximum weight of the animal including the transport box must not exceed 6 kg.

  • Dimensions of the Transport Box: The maximum permitted dimensions of the container are 48 × 35 × 29 cm.

  • IATA Compliance: The bag or box must comply with the current IATA Live Animal Regulations (LAR). The animal must be able to stand upright, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside without its head touching the ceiling.

  • Quota: A maximum of three animals per flight are permitted in the cabin. Early reservation is therefore strictly required.

  • Accompaniment: The pet owner must travel on the same flight and in the same cabin class as the animal.

Service Fees

The fee for transporting a pet in the cabin is 50,- EUR per flight route (100,- EUR for the round trip).

Assistance Dogs

Recognized assistance and guide dogs may of course travel free of charge in the cabin, provided they are well-socialized and behave quietly. Please register your assistance dog with our service team well in advance so that we can check all details and country-specific requirements for you.

Exclusions and Transport Bans

In the following cases, transport of the animal is strictly excluded:

  • Animals younger than 16 weeks or born within the last 48 hours.

  • Pregnant animals without an official, current veterinary certificate of fitness to fly.

  • Brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds as well as animals intended to be transported for laboratory and testing purposes.

  • Protected, threatened, or endangered animal species.

  • If the transport box is damaged or does not comply with the prescribed IATA requirements.

  • As soon as the maximum quota of three animals in the cabin for the respective flight has already been reached.

Step by Step – How Traveling with Your Pet Works

1. Early Registration
Register your pet as early as possible – preferably directly during the booking process through our service center.

2. Check Documents & Health
Check the entry regulations of the destination country. Have your animal examined by a veterinarian in good time and keep all documents (such as the EU pet passport, proof of vaccination, and microchip number if applicable) ready.

3. Timely Check-in at the Airport
Please arrive at our check-in counters with your pet and transport box at least 2 hours before departure. The boarding pass for you and the confirmation for your pet will be issued to you directly at the counter.

Tips for a Relaxed Flight

Flying can be unusual for animals. With these tips, you can ensure the well-being of your four-legged friend:

  • Get your pet used to the transport box gradually at home weeks before the flight by associating positive stimuli (food, praise) with it.

  • Place a familiar blanket or a worn item of your clothing inside the box – the familiar scent gives your pet security.

  • Feed your pet only lightly before the flight and consult your veterinarian regarding optimal feeding times.

  • Avoid sedatives if possible, unless they have been explicitly prescribed for the flight by the veterinarian, as medication in the air can put a heavy strain on the cardiovascular system.
